C
hris Foss is a name well known in aeromodelling circles. He is
famous for many successful designs, including the Wot series of
power models, such as the Acrowot, and the Phase series of gliders,
such as the Phase 6 slope soarer. The Phase 6 was chosen to illustrate this
model finishing technique using Deluxe Materials Eze-Kote.
For decades experienced R/C model aeroplane builders, especially scale
builders, have relied on fibreglass and epoxy resin to create a tough finish
on balsa. But now this job can be done better and faster with Deluxe
Materials Eze-Kote. An Eze-Kote glass cloth finish will accept most paints
and it’s safer and cleaner to use. It is non-sticky, has no smell or waste and
dries quickly. Furthermore, brushes can be cleaned with water. It saves
time and finishing can be done in one day.

build of the model.
Apply an initial coat of Eze-Kote resin and allow it to dry.
Eze-Kote is then brushed through the glass fibre fabric. Any unused Eze-Kote can
be returned to its container.
Excess fabric is efortlessly trimmed away using Perma-Grit sanding block or
320 grit paper.
A very neat edge can be achieved without much sanding work.

Having sanded the wing, Andy tested it using Halfords White Primer and his
chosen paint, Halfords Spray Ford Diamond White. Eze-Kote has good
compatibility with most white car primer paints. If you're in doubt always check
by testing the primer and paint topcoat before committing it to the model.
Andy's Eze-Kote livery gives the
Phase 6 a diferent look but still
accentuates the clean lines of
this classic glider.
