Remote Gateway (RGW)
TheRGWisasmallunitsimilartotheBGWbutintendedforsmallsystemswherethereareonlyafewremotesor
wherethereisnoheadend.TheRGWhasaformfactorthatallowsittobemountedinsidearepeatercasing.
TheRGWcanbeuse
dtorunupto4RemoteUnitsfromasingleRepeateronasingleFiber.TheRGWhasthe
capabilitytoconnectnorthboundtoaCGW,justliketheBGW,anditcanalsoforwardalarmsthroughaVPNtunnel
toaCGW.
Thememoryca

cityandfeaturesarereducedcomparedtotheBGWbutforasmallsystemwithasinglefiberthis
isanoption.
Inremotelo
cationswithoutEthernet,theRGWcanbeequippedwithamodemtoallowremoteaccesstothe
system.Typicallya3GmodemisusedallowingaVPNtunnelfromtheRGWtoaCGW,enab lingsupervision,
monitoringandcontrolofthesystem.
Headend
Theheadendconsistsofa19inchrackwithmodulesthatareselecteddependingonthesystemdesign.Generallyall
headendUnitscontain:
Networkswitch‐connectscommunicationpathsbetweenthemodules
InterconnectUnit(ICU)‐RFsplitter/combiner(rackmountunitormoduleintheMFU)
MasterFrameUnit(MFU),maycontainsomeorallofthefollowing:

iltintotheRGWandBGWwillassignIPaddressestoalltheheadendsubunitsintherackandthe
RemoteUnitswhentheyareconnectedtothesystem.Theconfigurationisautomaticandcreatesaprotectedsub
netforthesystem.
DCS - Network Switch
ThenetworkswitchisanACpowered,24portswitchwithSpanningTreeProtocol(STP).Thenetworkswitch
providesanEthernetlinkbetweentheMFUandtheBGW.EachcardslotintheMFUhasadedicatedEthernetport,
eachportisconnectedtothenetworkswitchandthenetworkswitchisconnectedtoth
eBGW.
