Wide Crown Moldings
Many homes
around the turn
of the century
used very wide
crown moldings
to bridge the gap
between the walls
and ceiling. A common practice was to create a “build-up” molding with a variety
of patterns to give the illusion that the crown molding was extremely wide. With
nine and ten foot ceilings, a large crown will give a balanced feel to the room.
Please note that the top knife is used to cut the decorative face and the bottom
knife cuts the back angles.

Similar to Crown moldings but used to bridge smaller areas. crowns are always
“sprung” while beds are either sprung or plain. A sprung molding has the interior
corner beveled off to better fit a right angle joint.

Standard Bed Moldings

All of our wood molding pattern knives are expertly ground from 1/4” thick high
speed steel knife stock hardened to 65c on the Rockwell Scale. The profiles and
sizes shown are those that reflect the most current popular wood moldings. Our
molding knives come complete with all gibs and balance weights to match your
selected knife pattern. Please note that certain patterns (such as the crown) require
more than one knife to complete the pattern. When the word “Top” follows the pat-
tern number, this knife will cut the decorative edge and the bottom knife will product
the back angles. These patterns will work in any Foley-Belsaw, Foley-United,
Belsaw, Sears, or Powermatic Planer / Molders and 13” Woodmaster, RB Industries
& Grizzly Planer/Molders.
