The immobilizer system consists of:
- Immobilizer ECU (integrated with instrument cluster) with Coil/Antenna and
illumination ring
- Key with embedded transponder
Two keys are paired with the immobilizer by storing specific parameters in the key and
immobilizer through diagnostic services. This ensures that only these two keys can be used to
start the vehicle.
RF communication between the instrument cluster and the transponder is conducted through a
proprietary algorithm. The authentication status is indicated through immobilizer telltale in the
instrument cluster –
- the immobilizer telltale is OFF when authentication between immobilizer and key
is successful
-
the immobilizer telltale is ON when authentication between immobilizer and key
has failed
Subsequent to successful key authentication, another level of authentication is performed
between the EMS and the immobilizer over CAN. This is to determine if the EMS and immobilizer
form a matched pair before the engine can be started.
Failure at one of the two levels of authentication will result in preventing engine start, thus
rendering the vehicle immobilized.
Note:
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause harmful interference and
2. This device must accept any interference received including interference that may cause
undesired operation of this device.
The changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance
could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
To comply with the FCC RF exposure compliance requirements, this device and its antenna must
not be co-located or operating to conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.
