Dell Write Filter
Dell Write Filter (DWF/FBWF) is a file-based write filter that protects your storage media on a Windows 7 desktop operating system. DWF
intercepts all write attempts to a protected volume and redirects those write attempts to an overlay. The overlay is stored in a folder on
the same volume. The size of the overlay is limited to the amount of free space available on the volume. Exclusion lists are supported for
files and folders.
DWF improves the reliability and stability of your device and improves system security since unauthorized changes to the system are
discarded. In DWF, an overlay is a virtual storage space that saves changes that are made to the underlying protected volumes. Any time
the file system attempts to modify a protected file in the overlay, DWF instead copies the file from the protected volume to the overlay
and modifies the copied file in the overlay. If an application attempts to read the file, DWF returns the data from the overlay. The file in the
protected volume remains unchanged.
For more information, see White papers.
