Upgrading ThinLinux using Wyse Management
Suite
Prerequisites
Use Wyse Management Suite version 1.1 or later versions to deploy the required add-ons for the upgrade process.
About this task
This section describes the steps to upgrade ThinLinux using Wyse Management Suite:
Steps
1. Install the following add-ons on your thin client based on the following scenarios:
• Scenario 1—If your thin client is running ThinLinux version 1.0.4 or 1.0.4.1.
• Scenario 1.A—If you are using Wyse Management Suite with cloud deployment, download and install the following add-ons
available at
support.dell.com.
• Platform_util-1.0.26-0.3.x86_64.rpm or later versions—This add-on is available as ThinLinux 2.0 for Dell Wyse
3040 Thin Clients Platform Utility Addon.
• wda-2.1.23-00.01.x86_64.rpm or later versions—This add-on is available as ThinLinux 2.0 for Dell Wyse 3040 Thin
Clients WDA Addon.
• merlin_nonpxe_3.7.7-00.05.x86_64.rpm or later versions—This add-on is available as ThinLinux 2.0 for Dell
Wyse 3040 Thin Clients Merlin Non-PXE Addon.
• Scenario 1.B—If you are using Wyse Management Suite with on-premises deployment, install the following add-ons available
at Apps & Data in the Thin Client App Inventory on Wyse Management Suite console.
• Platform_util-1.0.26-0.3.x86_64.rpm or later versions
• wda-2.1.23-00.01.x86_64.rpm or later versions
• merlin_nonpxe_3.7.7-00.05.x86_64.rpm or later versions
If any of the add-ons are not available in the Wyse Management Suite repository, then you can download and install the add-
ons available at support.dell.com.
• Scenario 2—If your thin client is running ThinLinux version 1.0.7.1, and you are using Wyse Management Suite with cloud
deployment or on-premises deployment, then download and install the merlin_nonpxe_3.7.7-00.05.x86_64.rpm add-on
available at support.dell.com. This add-on is available as ThinLinux 2.0 for Dell Wyse 3040 Thin Clients Merlin Non-PXE Addon.
NOTE:
The merlin_nonpxe_3.7.7-00.05.x86_64.rpm add-on is mandatory to upgrade ThinLinux v1.0.x to v2.0.
If this add-on is not installed, the image installation fails. If you use an older version of the add-on, a grub error is
displayed.
2. Download the latest ThinLinux v2.0 image file (2.0.19.31428_3040_16GB_HF_merlin.exe) available at support.dell.com.
This image file is available as
ThinLinux 2.0 for Dell Wyse 3040 Thin Clients.
3. Reboot the thin client.
4. Go to Settings > Management > Wyse Device Agent.
5. Register the device to the Wyse Management Suite server.
6. Log in to the Wyse Management Suite server.
