3.5 Fine-tuning delivery
At this stage in your deployment you have everything necessary for delivering
advertisements to the users of your system; you can even prioritize the
delivery using the intelligent delivery functionality provided by the
promotions (full edition only).
There are however, a number of fine-tunings that you may wish to make to
the amigopod to improve the user experience in subtle but effective ways:
1. You could use separate advertising spaces for images and text.
The regularity of having all images placed above all text
advertisements can reduce the sense of clutter.
2. You can reduce overloading the user with videos by only showing
them at very specific times, such as only before login. Too many
videos that the user must watch, or must explicitly skip, can cause
the user to become frustrated and dissatisfied with the service –
even if it is free.
The following sections will show you how to achieve these goals.
3.5.1 Separating image & Flash advertisements from text advertisements
IMPORTANT You need the full edition of Advertising Services to be able to create custom
advertising spaces.
A simple but effective way to improve the user experience is to create
separate advertising spaces for graphical advertisements (images and Flash
animations) and textual advertisements.
To effectively split the Page Right (built-in) space into two separate spaces,
one for graphics and one for text:
1. Navigate to the advertising spaces list (Advertising Services »
Spaces).
2. Select the Page Right (built-in) space from the list; an action row
will be shown.
3. Click the Copy link; the space editor will be shown.
Change the following settings in the General Properties section:
4. Enter a Name of: Page Right (Text Only)
5. Enter a Rank of: 20
