Cartridge for Operating Systems
Overview
You can use this agent to track file system capacity and inodes. An inode is a data structure that
describes a file. The number of inodes allocated when a file system is created determines the
maximum number of files the file system can contain.
By default, the FileSystem agent monitors local file systems, however, you can configure it to
monitor remote file systems. You can also configure it to monitor specific file systems on a host. The
FileSystem agent includes the following default file system lists:
FSTypesMonitoredList - designates the local and remote file system types the agent should
monitor.
FileSystemsList - designates specific file systems to monitor.
DirectoriesMonitoredList - designates specific directories to monitor.
You can modify these lists as well as create others to suit your needs. Although any file system can
work, the FileSystem agent itself has only been tested with the defaults listed in the
FSTypesMonitoredList.
Note You are limited to the file system types that are in the default list. You cannot add new types to the list to
monitor them.
To perform monitoring, the FileSystem agent retrieves a list of all available file systems and then
filters that list based on the following criteria:
File systems that you define in the FSTypesMonitored list.
Include or exclude list that you select in the FileSystemsList.
