Outside of daily backup and restore operations, there are a few storage-snapshot-related processes that are
discussed in this section. It is unlikely these will be used frequently but discussing them helps correlate the
task’s interaction with SC Series storage.
6.1 Storage discovery and rescan
The Storage Discovery and Rescan processes keep Veeam up to date with the following information:
• SC Series volumes that Veeam can manage
• SC Series snapshots on those volumes
• Virtual machines frozen in each snapshot
With this information, Veeam knows what virtual machines can be recovered from a point in time. The Veeam
Storage Monitor process runs in the background and automatically rescans storage at 10-minute intervals. A
manual rescan can also be run against an entire SC Series array or a single volume.
From the Storage Infrastructure menu, right-click an SC Series array or a volume and click Rescan
storage.
