This section describes the possibilities of integrating Server Update Utility with OpenManage Essentials.
Dell recommends using Dell OpenManage Essentials as replacement for IT Assistant.
IT Assistant will not be available in the releases following OpenManage 7.2.
OpenManage Essentials is a hardware management application that provides a comprehensive view of
Dell systems, devices, and components in the enterprise’s network. With OpenManage Essentials, a web-
based and one-to-many systems management application for Dell systems and other devices, you can:
Discover and inventory the systems.
Monitor systems health.
View and manage system alerts.
Perform system's updates.
View hardware inventory and compliance reports.
Selecting a Catalog Source Using SUU
1. Launch OpenManage Essentials.
2. Click ManageSystem Update Select a Catalog Source System Update Select a Catalog Source.
3. Click Use file System source (SUU) .
4. Click Browse and select either the catalog.xml or catalog.cab file.
5. Click Import now.
Integrating SUU With Dell Management Console
Dell Management Console is a one-to-many systems management application that provides enhanced
discovery, inventory, monitoring, patch updates, and reporting features. Dell Management Console is a
Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) with a scalable, modular console for basic hardware
management as well as advanced functions, such as asset management, enhanced security, and
compliance. You can install Dell Management Console on a management station in a networked
environment.
