Access Vector Cache (AVC) denial messages are
displayed when NVMe disk is hot inserted
Description: The following Access Vector Cache (AVC) denial messages are displayed when NVMe disk is hot inserted:
type=AVC msg=audit(1592925748.673:212): avc: denied
{ read } for pid=9349 comm="smartd" name="nvme0"
dev="devtmpfs" ino=12595 scontext=system_u:system_r:fsdaemon_t:s0
tcontext=system_u:object_r:nvme_device_t:s0 tclass=chr_file permissive=0
Applies to: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.5 and later
Cause: SMART Disk Monitoring Daemon tries to monitor the NVMe drives but gets blocked due to enforced
SELinux policies. This issue is related to SMARTD monitoring /dev/nvme and not related to hotplug
events. After the error messages are displayed, smartd cannot monitor the NVMe devices.
Workaround: It is recommended to use the nvme-cli tool to monitor the NVMe drives.
