11–QLogic Teaming Services
Executive Summary
125 BC0054508-00 J
This section describes the technology and implementation considerations when
working with the network teaming services offered by the QLogic software
shipped with Dell’s servers and storage products. The goal of QLogic teaming
services is to provide fault tolerance and link aggregation across a team of two or
more adapters. The information in this document is provided to assist IT
professionals during the deployment and troubleshooting of system applications
that require network fault tolerance and load balancing.
Glossary

Layer 2 Network traffic that is not offloaded, and where hardware only
performs Layer 2 operations on the traffic. Layer 3 (IP) and
Layer 4 (TCP) protocols are processed in software.
Layer 4 Network traffic that is heavily offloaded to the hardware, where
much of the Layer 3 (IP) and Layer 4 (TCP) processing is done
in the hardware to improve performance.
LACP link aggregation control protocol

and the switch manages incoming traffic
