SetInstallationMethod
ThenextsectionoftheGroupDetails Viewisthe“SetInstallationMethod”section.
WhiletheDPWMSisnotabletodoinitialinstallationsofclientsoftware,itcanprovidesoftwareupdatesoncethe
clients
aremanaged.The“SetInstallationMethod”provides options forhowclientupdatesshouldbeapplied.
WhenaDPWMSgroupisassignedwithaspecificsoftwareversion,itisthenabletoensurethatallclientsthatare
assignedtothegrouparerunningthisspecificversion,orgreater,oftheclient
software.Forexample,iftheGroupis
assignedv3.3.4andaclientisrunningv3.3.0,theclientwillbeupgraded.However,iftheclientisrunningv3.3.5,itwill
notbedowngraded.
Thefirstsectiondealswiththeuserexperienceduringthesoftwareupgradeprocess.Oneofthreeoptionsneeds
tobe
selectedwhenasoftwareversionisspecified.
The“Default”methodwillprovidetheuserwithaDellProtectedWorkspaceAlertoverthesystemtray,afterthe
upgradefilehasfinisheddownloadingtothestagingareaontheclientmachine,withtheoptiontoeither“InstallNow”
or“Install
Later”.BychoosingNow,theuserwillimmediatelybeexitedoutofallprotectedapplicationsandthe
upgradeprocesswilltakeplaceimmediately.TheLateroptionwillputtheupgradeintoapendingstateanditwill
automaticallyapplythenexttimetheclientsoftwareisrestoredorrestarted.
The“Nice”
methoddoesnotalerttheuseratall,butaftertheupgradefilehasfinisheddownloadingtothestagingarea
ontheclientmachine,theupgradewillbeinapendingstate,anditwillautomaticallyapplythenexttimetheclient
softwareisrestoredorrestarted.
Finally,the“Force”
methodwillprovide theuserwithaDellProtectedWorkspaceAlertoverthesystemtray,afterthe
upgradefilehasfinisheddownloadingtothestagingareaontheclientmachinethatindicatesafive(5)minute
countdownuntilthesoftwareisforciblyupgraded.Oncethetimerhasexpired,allprotectedapplications
willcloseand
theupgradewillbeprocessed.
