Creating a New Stack
Prior to creating a stack, know which unit will be the management unit and which will be the standby unit.
1 Power up all units in the stack.
2 Verify that each unit has the same Dell Networking OS version prior to stacking them together.

3 Manually configure unit numbers for each unit, so that the stacking is deterministic upon boot up.

Renumbering causes the unit to reboot. The stack-unit default for all new units is stack-unit 1.
4 Configure the switch priority for each unit to make management unit selection deterministic.

5 Connect the units using stacking cables.
NOTE: The device does not require special stacking cables. The cables used to connect the data
ports are sufficient.
6 Reload the stack one unit at a time.

Start with the management unit, then the standby, then each of the members in order of their assigned
stack number (or the position in the stack you want each unit to take).
Allow each unit to completely boot, and verify that the stack manager detects the unit, then power the
next unit.
