Setup Guide
• Create a peer group by assigning it a name
• Adding members (neighbors) to the peer group
Conguration rules in a peer group:
• You must create a peer group rst before adding the neighbors in the peer group.
• If you remove any conguration parameters from a peer group, it will apply to all the neighbors congured under that peer group.
• If you have not congured a parameter for an individual neighbor in the peer group, the neighbor uses the value congured in the peer
group.
• If you reset any parameter for an individual neighbor, it will override the value set in the peer group.
• If you add a conguration parameters to a peer group that already has neighbors, the parameter value is applied to all the neighbors
which does not have the value set. If a neighbor has a value explicitly set, the value overrides the value set for the peer group.
• You cannot remove the remote AS conguration from the peer group, if the peer group has neighbors.
• If you remove any parameter value in a peer group, the value of the parameter is set to the default for all the neighbors in the peer
group, unless there is an explicit parameter set for an individual neighbor.
After you create a peer group, you can congure route policies for it. For information about conguring route policies for a peer group, refer
to Filtering BGP Routes. See Example-Conguring BGP peer groups for conguring multiple BGP neighbors and enabling peer groups.
Conguring Peer Groups
To congure a peer group, use the following commands.
1 Enter the router conguration mode and the AS number.
CONFIG mode
router bgp as-number
2 Create a peer group by assigning a name to it.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor peer-group-name peer-group
3 Enable the peer group.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor peer-group-name no shutdown
By default, all peer groups are disabled.
4 Create a BGP neighbor.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor {ip-address | ipv6-address} remote-as as-number
5 Enable the neighbor.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor {ip-address | ipv6-address} no shutdown
NOTE
: You can use neighbor shutdown command to disable a BGP neighbor or a peer group.
6 Add an enabled neighbor to the peer group.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
neighbor {ip-address | ipv6-address | peer-group-name} peer-group peer-group-name
7 Add a neighbor as a remote AS.
