In the following illustration, an IP phone powers Power over Ethernet (PoE) and has acquired an IP address from the Dell Networking
system, which is advertising link layer discovery protocol (LLDP)-media endpoint discovery (MED). The leased IP address is displayed using
the show ip dhcp binding command and conrmed using the show lldp neighbors command.

Congure a Method of Hostname Resolution
Dell systems are capable of providing DHCP clients with parameters for two methods of hostname resolution—using DNS or NetBIOS
WINS.
Using DNS for Address Resolution
A domain is a group of networks. DHCP clients query DNS IP servers when they need to correlate host names to IP addresses.
1 Create a domain.

2 Specify in order of preference the DNS servers that are available to a DHCP client.

Using NetBIOS WINS for Address Resolution
Windows internet naming service (WINS) is a name resolution service that Microsoft DHCP clients use to correlate host names to IP
addresses within a group of networks. Microsoft DHCP clients can be one of four types of NetBIOS nodes: broadcast, peer-to-peer, mixed,
or hybrid.
1 Specify the NetBIOS WINS name servers, in order of preference, that are available to Microsoft Dynamic Host Conguration Protocol
(DHCP) clients.

2 Specify the NetBIOS node type for a Microsoft DHCP client. Dell Networking recommends specifying clients as hybrid.
