Bare Metal Provisioning (BMP)
Bare metal provisioning (BMP) is supported on the Dell Networking OS platform.
In a data center network, BMP automates the conguration and updating of switches, ensuring standard congurations across the
installed devices.
You can congure autoconguration on a single switch or on multiple switches. BMP allows you to set up a stack with a minimum of
eort, but is also useful for quick conguration of a single switch.
For more information about BMP in Auto-Conguration mode, refer to the Open Automation Guide.
BMP 3.0 eases conguration by providing the following key features:
• Boot images and running congurations are specied in a DHCP server.
• Files are automatically downloaded from a le server and the switch applies.
• Switch access is allowed through all ports (management and user ports) with or without DHCP-based dynamic IP address
conguration of a switch.
• Booting up in Layer 3 mode with interfaces already in No Shutdown mode and some basic protocols enabled to protect the
system and the network.
• Supports pre-conguration and post-conguration scripts to automatically load predened congurations and Dell Networking
OS images using DHCP and common le transfer mechanisms.
reload-type
Congure a switch to reload as a DHCP client in BMP mode with all ports congured for Layer 3 trac or in Normal mode.
Syntax
reload-type [bmp | normal—reload {[auto—save {enable | disable}] | [config-
scr-download {enable | disable}] | [dhcp-timeout minutes]| retry-count
number | vendor-class-identifier description]
Use the disable bmp command to stop the BMP process.
Parameters
bmp (Default) Enable the BMP reload type. The system acts as a DHCP client and
downloads the Dell Networking OS image, conguration and boot les from a
specied DHCP server.
normal-reload Enable the normal reload type and disable BMP reload type. The system retrieves
the Dell Networking OS image and startup-conguration les from the ash after
performing a reload.
auto-save Congure the auto save option to save the downloaded conguration or script le.
They are not saved by default. When auto save is congured, downloaded
congurations are automatically saved to the startup conguration. Auto saving the
downloaded congurations also requires enabling the cong-scr-download
parameter. Downloaded scripts are automatically saved to the autoexec script.
