Important Points to Remember for Installing a Unified
Port Module
• You must insert the Unified Port module only in slot 0.
• Installing and swapping of Unified Port modules must be done BEFORE power up. If you need to
install or replace a module, power down the system before you install or replace it. If you install or
replace a module when the system is powered up, the system does not recognize the module. Online
insertion of modules can result in a catastrophic failure.
• The S5000 does not support the hot swapping of a Unified Port pluggable module during switch
operations. Instead, you must power down the switch before removing and replacing a Unified Port
module.
WARNING: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage can occur if components are mishandled.
Always wear an ESD-preventive wrist or heel ground strap when handling the S5000 and its
components.
