Dell# configure
3 Congure the priority used to determine the stack master and standby roles in the stack, where stack-unit 0 is the default stack-unit
number.
CONFIGURATION mode
stack-unit 0 priority value
• stack-unit 0 is the default stack-unit number.
• priority value species the management priority.
The range is from 1 to 14.
The default is 0. The unit with the highest priority is elected stack master.
4 Repeat Steps 1 to 3 on each stack unit to pre-congure the election of master and standby stack units.
5 Assign a number to the stack unit,
EXEC Privilege
stack-unit 0 renumber unit-number
• stack-unit 0 is the default stack-unit number.
• stack-unit unit-number is the new stack-unit number. The valid values are from 0 to 11.
After you recongure the unit number, you are prompted to reload the switch. Type yes to conrm; type no to exit.
Before the switch reloads, you are prompted to save the conguration. Type yes to conrm and to reload the switch.
6 Repeat Step 5 on each stack unit to congure the stack-unit number of the master, standby, and member units.
7 Enable a group of four 10 GbE or a single 40 GbE port in stacking mode.
CONFIGURATION mode
stack-unit unit-number stack-group group-number
• stack-unit unit-number is the stack-unit number.
• stack-group group-number is group of four 10 GbE ports or one 40 GbE port. The valid values are from 0 to 15.
8 Save the stacking conguration to the startup conguration.
EXEC Privilege mode
write memory
9 Repeat Steps 7 and 8 on each stack unit to congure the stack ports on the master, standby, and member units.
10 Reboot each switch, one after another, in as short a time as possible.
EXEC Privilege mode
reload
Examples of Conguring and Viewing Two S5000 Switches in a Stack
Dell Networking OS Behavior: After you congure the 10 GbE ports in a stack group for stacking, you cannot use the ports for Ethernet
data transmission. For example, if you enable stack group 0 for stacking and only connect ports 0 and 1 to a peer switch, ports 2 and 3
must remain unused for Ethernet data links.
If you do not assign a priority and renumber each stack unit and the stacked switches reboot at approximately the same time, the switch
with the highest MAC address is automatically elected as the master switch. The switch with the next highest MAC address is elected as
standby. As each switch joins the stack, it is assigned the lowest available stack-unit number from 0 to 11. The default conguration of each
stacked switch is stored in the running conguration of the stack. The stack-unit ID numbers are retained after future stack reloads.
