Multicast Source Discovery Protocol
(MSDP)
Multicast source discovery protocol (MSDP) connects multiple PIM Sparse-Mode (PIM-SM) domains
together.
MSDP peers connect using TCP port 639. Peers send keepalives every 60 seconds. A peer connection is
reset after 75 seconds if no MSDP packets are received. MSDP connections are parallel with MBGP
connections.
Dell Networking OS supports MSDP commands on the S5000 switch.
debug ip msdp
Turn on MSDP debugging.

Syntax
debug ip msdp {event peer address | packet peer address | pim}
To turn debugging off, use the no debug ip msdp {event peer address |
packet peer address | pim} command.
Parameters
event peer
address
Enter the keyword event followed by the peer address in a
dotted decimal format (A.B.C.D.).
packet peer
address
Enter the keyword packet followed by the peer address in a
dotted decimal format (A.B.C.D.).
pim Enter the keyword pim to debug advertisement from PIM.
Defaults Not configured.
