Stacking | 861
The switch with the highest priority number is elected master. The switch with the next highest priority
number is elected standby and takes over stack management if the master switch fails. The range of valid
priority values is from 1 to 14.
To revert the management priority of a stack unit to the default value of 0, use the
no form of the stack-unit
u
nit-number priority number command.
Renumbering a Stack Unit
By default, each stack unit is assigned the unit-number 0. To renumber a stack unit to pre-configure the
numbering of the master, standby, and member units, use the
stack-unit renumber command in EXEC
Privilege mode. After you enter the command, you are prompted to reload the switch and save the stacking
configuration.
Figure 48-6. Warning Messages Displayed After Renumbering a Stack Unit
When you renumber a stacked switch in an existing stack:
• If you renumber the master switch, you are prompted to reload the entire stack.
• If you renumber the standby switch, only the switch reloads and is replaced by a member switch that is
elected as the new standby.
• If you renumber a member switch, only the member switch reloads.
• If you renumber a switch to a number already assigned to another stack unit, an error message is
displayed.
