IPv6 Routing
IPv6 Routing is supported on the S5000 switch.
IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is the successor to IPv4. Due to the extremely rapid growth in internet
users and IP addresses, IPv4 is reaching its maximum usage. IPv6 will eventually replace IPv4 usage to
allow for the constant expansion.
This chapter provides a brief discussion of the differences between IPv4 and IPv6, and the Dell
Networking OS support of IPv6. This chapter discusses the following, but is not intended to be a
comprehensive discussion of IPv6.
• Protocol Overview
• Extended Address Space
• Stateless Autoconfiguration
• IPv6 Headers
• IPv6 Header Fields
• Extension Header fields
