Users Guide

conguration le stored in the local ash on the switch is loaded as part of the stop jump-start command and Auto-
Conguration mode is changed to Normal reload.
The reload settings that you congure with the reload-type command are stored in non-volatile memory and retained for future
reboots. Enter the
reload command to reload the switch in the current congured mode: Normal or Jumpstart mode.
Reload a switch running BMP version 2.0 in either Normal or Jumpstart mode.
EXEC Privilege mode
reload-type {normal-reload | jump-start [config-download {enable | disable}] [dhcp-
timeout minutes]}
If you reload in Jumpstart mode, you can congure:
config-download: Whether the switch boots up using the conguration le downloaded from the DHCP/le servers
(enable) OR if the downloaded le is discarded and the startup conguration le stored in the local ash is used (disable).
dhcp-timeout: The amount of time the switch waits for a DHCP server response before reverting to Normal mode and
loading the startup conguration from the ash. The default time is innity, which makes the switch continue to wait forever
unless you issue the stop jump-start command.
The range is from 1 to 50 minutes.
The default is the switch tries to contact a DHCP server an innite number of times.
This command stops the jumpstart reload process while it is in progress and changes the reload type to Normal mode.
EXEC Privilege mode
stop jump-start
If the command is initiated while the switch is downloading an image or conguration le, the command takes eect when the
DHCP release is sent.
Example of Viewing the Congured Reload Mode
To display the currently congured Reload mode for a switch running BMP version 2.0, use the show reload-type or show
bootvar
command.
Dell#show reload-type
Reload-Type : jump-start [Next boot :jump-start]
config-download : enable
dhcp-timeout : 10
Dell#show bootvar
. . content truncated..
Reload Mode = jump-start

Jumpstart Mode
Jumpstart (BMP) mode is the default boot mode congured for a new switch arriving from Dell Networking. This mode obtains the
Dell Networking OS image and conguration le from a network source (DHCP server and le server).
DHCP Server/Conguration
You must rst congure an external DHCP server before you can use Jumpstart mode on a switch. Congure the DHCP server with
the following parameters for each client switch. The DHCP server is congured to assign an IP address to the switch and specify the
les to download.
For more information, refer to the Dell Networking OS Conguration Guide, the Dynamic Host Conguration Protocol chapter.
Congure one or more of the following parameters on the DHCP server:
