5. The switch sends a unicast message to the file server to retrieve the named FTOS file and/or the
configuration file from the base directory of the server.
a If an option
bootfile-name is used, the file name can be 256 bytes. If a filename field is specified in
the DHCP Offer, the filename can be 128 bytes. The name can be a fully qualified URL or it can
be a file name only.
b When an FTOS image is found, the switch compares the version in the image header with the
version of the currently loaded system image.
If the downloaded image is different from the version of the current system image version:
i) The switch downloads the new image and boots up with the new version.
ii) The switch boots up in Jumpstart mode and sends DHCP discovery messages to retrieve a
configuration file.
iii) The switch receives a configuration file in a DHCP offer and downloads it.
