Application core dumps
By default, application core dumps are enabled and are stored in a local directory (flash:/core_dump_dir).
A core dump file can be very large. Dell recommends that due to memory requirements, you can upload
the file directly to an FTP server. so that it is not stored in the local flash. To enable automatic uploading of
the core dump file to an FTP server, use the
logging coredump server command. To specify the FTP server,
use the
ftp-server enable command in global configuration mode.
Undo this command using the
no logging coredump server.
Mini core dumps
FTOS supports mini core dumps for kernel (not application) crashes. The mini core dump applies to
Master, Standby, and Member units.
Kernel mini core dumps are always enabled. The mini core dumps contain the stack space and some other
very minimal information that can be used to debug a crash. These files are small files and are written into
flash until space is exhausted. When the flash is full, the write process is stopped.
A mini core dump contains critical information in the event of a crash.
• Mini core dump files are located in
flash:/core_dump_dir.
• The kernel mini core file name format is
f10StkUnit<Stack_unit_no>.kcore.mini.txt.
Sample files names are shown in Figure 56-18 and sample file text is shown in Figure 56-19.
