Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

(BFD)

Overview

Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) is a detection protocol that provides fast

forwarding path failure detection. The FTOS implementation is based on the

standards specified in the IETF Draft draft-ietf-bfd-base-03 and supports BFD on all

Layer 3 physical interfaces including VLAN interfaces and port-channels.

BFD is supported on the C-Series

c, E-Series e, and as

indicated by the characters that appear under each of the command headings.
