Changing the LOCAL_PREFERENCE Attribute
In Dell EMC Networking OS, you can change the value of the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute, so that the preferred path can be changed.
To change the default values of this attribute for all routes received by the router, use the following command.
• Change the LOCAL_PREF value.
CONFIG-ROUTER-BGP mode
bgp default local-preference value
value: the range is from 0 to 4294967295. The default is 100.
Example conguration of changing the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute
DellEMC# configure terminal
DellEMC(conf)# router bgp 400
DellEMC(conf_router_bgp)# neighbor 10.10.10.1 remote-as 500
DellEMC(conf_router_bgp)# bgp default local-preference 150
DellEMC(conf_router_bgp)# exit
In the above example conguration, the default LOCAL_PREFERENCE value is changed to 150 for all the updates from AS 500 to AS 400.
The default value is 100.
To view the BGP conguration, use the show config command in CONFIGURATION ROUTER BGP mode or the show running-
config bgp
command in EXEC Privilege mode.
Manipulating the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute
A more exible method for manipulating the LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute value is to use a route-map.
To change the usage of LOCAL_PREFERENCE attribute to choose the best path among the advertised, enter any or all of the following
commands.
1 Enter the ROUTE-MAP mode and assign a name to a route-map.
CONFIGURATION mode
route-map map-name [permit | deny] [sequence-number]
2 Change LOCAL_PREF value for routes meeting the criteria of this route-map.
CONFIG-ROUTE-MAP mode
set local-preference value
3 Return to CONFIGURATION mode.
CONFIG-ROUTE-MAP mode
exit
4 Enter ROUTER BGP mode.
CONFIGURATION mode
