Acquisition costs
Acquisition costs for the legacy solution include software license and setup costs. This solution does not have a
hardware purchase cost.
Software costs
We include license costs for the following software:
 Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition licenses processor licenses for the three servers; each server requires a
single two-license pack, which licenses a one- or two-processor server.
 Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard license for one server
 Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Standard Edition license for one server
This solution does not use virtualization, so cost does not include the VMware vSphere 5 Standard licenses used
with the Dell PowerEdge VRTX solution.
We used the Microsoft License Advisor

and selected Corporate Open No Level pricing for Microsoft software.
Setup costs
We estimated 16 hours of staff time to move the legacy hardware and to install the software on it. We omit
those non platform-specific tasks from this analysis so we do not include time to update the software to the latest
edition or to migrate files and databases to it.
Annual costs
Annual costs include hardware support, Microsoft Software Assurance, energy costs for power and cooling, staff
time to maintain the hardware, and end-user staff costs related to the downtime for aging servers and storage.

We assume the SMB purchases the following year-to-year post-warranty support for the servers and storage
