Parameters
•
seconds
—Remaining length of time, in seconds, that this router will
continue to be useful as a default router (Router Lifetime value). A value
of zero indicates that it is no longer useful as a default router. The
acceptable range is 0 or from <Maximum RA Interval> to 9000 seconds.
Default Configuration
The default lifetime value is 3*<Maximum RA Interval> seconds.
Command Mode
Interface Configuration mode
User Guidelines
The Router Lifetime value is included in all IPv6 router advertisements sent
out the interface. The value indicates the usefulness of the router as a default
router on this interface. Setting the value to 0 indicates that the router should
not be considered a default router on this interface. The Router Lifetime
value can be set to a non-zero value to indicate that it should be considered a
default router on this interface. The non-zero value for the Router Lifetime
value should not be less than the router advertisement interval.
Example
The following example configures an IPv6 router advertisement lifetime of
1801 seconds for VLAN 1:
console(config)#
interface vlan
1
console(config-if)#
ipv6 nd ra lifetime 1801
console(config-if)#
exit
ipv6 nd ra suppress
Use the ipv6 nd ra suppress command in Interface Configuration mode to
suppress IPv6 router advertisement transmissions on an interface. To re-
enable the sending of IPv6 router advertisement transmissions on an
interface, use the no form of this command.
