Deployment Guide

Usage Information
When you create a VLT domain on a switch, Dell Networking OS automatically creates a VLT-system MAC address
used for internal system operations.
To recongure the default MAC address for the domain by entering a new MAC address in the format
nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn, use the system-mac command.
You must also recongure the same MAC address on the VLT peer switch.
unit-id
Explicitly congure the default unit ID of a VLT peer switch.
Syntax
unit-id [0 | 1]
Parameters
0 | 1 Congure the default unit ID of a VLT peer switch. Enter 0 for the rst peer or enter 1 for
the second peer.
Defaults Automatically assigned based on the MAC address of each VLT peer. The peer with the lower MAC address is
assigned unit 0; the peer with the higher MAC address is assigned unit 1.

Supported Modes Programmable-Mux (PMUX)
Command History
Version Description
9.4(0.0) Supported on the FN I/O Aggregator.
9.2(0.0) Supported on the M I/O Aggregator.
Usage Information
When you create a VLT domain on a switch, Dell Networking OS automatically assigns a unique unit ID (0 or 1) to
each peer switch. The unit IDs are used for internal system operations. Use the unit-id command to explicitly
congure the unit ID of a VLT peer. Congure a dierent unit ID (0 or 1) on each peer switch.
To minimize the time required for the VLT system to determine the unit ID assigned to each peer switch when one
peer reboots, use this command.
vlt domain
Enable VLT on a switch, congure a VLT domain, and enter VLT-domain conguration mode.
Syntax
vlt domain domain-id
Parameters
domain-id Enter the Domain ID number. Congure the same domain ID on the peer switch. The
range of domain IDs is from 1 to 1000.
