Enabling IPMI
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) provides a set of common
interfaces to the hardware and firmware that system administrators can use to
monitor system health and manage the system. With Oracle 11g R2, Oracle
Clusterware can integrate IPMI to provide failure isolation support and to
ensure cluster integrity.
Prerequisites for Enabling IPMI
Each cluster node requires a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC),
running a firmware compatible with IPMI version 1.5 or later and configured
for remote control using LAN. Use the Dell OpenManage utility media to
install the BMC DRAC utilities.
NOTE: It is recommended that you use a dedicated management network
(DRAC port) for IPMI.
Configuring Your Managed System
Before using the BMC Management Utility, configure certain items, such as
the necessary system BIOS, network, IPMI encryption key, and serial
connection settings, depending on the functionality to be performed, to
enable access to the BMC.
To utilize the BMC Management Utility you must have a working
connection between the management station and the port of the target BMC.
This section describes the basic procedures you must perform to prepare your
BMC to be accessed and managed using the BMC Management Utility.
Baseboard Management Controller Configuration
You can perform basic BMC configuration using the Remote Access
Configuration Utility during system startup.
