16 Configuring Your Network
Configuring Host Name Resolution
Add host entries within the %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
domain name. On each node, modify lines in the
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file by typing:
127.0.0.1 localhost
<public IP node1> <public hostname node1>
<public IP node2> <public hostname node2>
For a Cluster Using DNS
To set up an Oracle 11g R2 RAC using Oracle DNS (without GNS):
1
Configure at least two interfaces on each node, one for the private IP address
and one for the public IP address.
2
Configure a SCAN NAME for the DNS for Round Robin resolution to three
addresses (recommended) or at least one address. The SCAN addresses must
be on the same subnet as virtual IP addresses and public IP addresses.
NOTE:
For high availability and scalability, it is recommended that you configure the
SCAN to use Round Robin resolution to three IP addresses. The name for the SCAN
cannot begin with a numeral. For installation to succeed, the SCAN must resolve to at
least one address.
Table 2-3 describes the different interfaces, IP address settings and the resolutions
in a cluster.
