To resolve the issue, perform the following steps:

Perform the
/etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk
operation using
the following command:
/usr/sbin/asmtool -C -l /dev/oracleasm -n <volume name> -s /dev/<emc
device> -a force=yes
The following message is displayed:
asmtool: Device "/dev/<emc device>" is not a
partitionasmtool: Continue anyway.

The permissions of the volume under
/dev/oracleasm/disks/
will be
root: root
. Reboot the system to correct it.

You can now use the device using the PowerPath device name.

Oracle Clusterware Verification Utility Fails After the Grid Infrastructure
Installation
The issue occurs when the Grid Naming Service (GNS) Virtual IP (VIP) entry
is not present in the /etc/resolv.conf file.
After the successful grid infrastructure installation, runInstaller (GUI)
displays the following error message: INS-20802: Oracle
Clusterware Verification Utility failed.
Also, the following error messages are logged in the oraInventory log files:
INFO: PRVF-4664: Found inconsistent name resolution
entries for SCAN name "scancluster"
INFO: PRVF-4657: Name resolution setup check for
"scancluster" (IP address: 190.10.1.101) failed.
To resolve this issue, add the GNS VIP IP into the /etc/resolv.conf file.
