Installing and Configuring the Operating System
NOTICE: To ensure that the operating system is installed correctly, disconnect all external storage from the system
before you install the operating system.
This section provides information about installing and configuring the Windows Server 2003, Standard x64
Edition with SP1 operating system for Oracle deployment.
The installation procedure may vary, depending on the installation CDs that you purchased with your
system. See Table 1-3 for the installation procedure that applies to your configuration.
Installing the Operating System Using the Deployment CDs
NOTE: See the Dell Support website at support.dell.com for the latest BIOS, firmware, and driver updates.

Shut down your system.

Disconnect all external storage devices from your system.

Locate the
Deployment
CDs and the
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP1 Standard x64 Edition
CD.

Turn on your system.

Insert the
Deployment
CD1
into the CD drive.
Your system boots from the
Deployment CD1
. After startup, a text screen appears, prompting you
to select an option.
If your system did not boot from the
Deployment CD1
, restart your system. On reboot, press F2
and verify that the CD drive appears first in the boot order.
