NOTE: Storage Management does not allow hot removal of enclosures. Reboot the system to effect this change in
Storage Management.
NOTE: Minimum of six seconds gap is required for any hot-plugable device in or out operations .
Storage Management notifies you of enclosure status changes through alerts that are displayed in the Alert Log.
The following sections provide more information on the enclosure components and management features provided by Storage
Management:
• MX5016s
• Enclosure Physical Disks
• Enclosure Fans
• Enclosure Power Supplies

MX5016s
MX5016s is a storage sled that is connected to a blade chassis to provide extended storage access, other than the physical storage
available in the PowerEdge Modular servers. It supports up to 6 PSU at the front and maximum of 4 fans in a single chassis. It can
accommodate up to 16 HDDs (SAS/SED/SSD/). The blade chassis have IO modules connected at the back. The platform makes use of
these IO modules in order to access the disks connected to MX5016s. SATA disk supports only with compute nodes.
Hard drives connected to MX5016s can be mapped to PowerEdge Modular servers in two ways:
• Slot Mapping: In slot mapping, hard drives can be mapped to specific PowerEdge Modular servers slots. Slot level mapping of
MX5016s is possible from computes. If you have 1 compute and 3 MX5016s, you can have any individual slots of any MX5016s mapped
to the compute. Storage Management discovers and lists only the slots with hard drive present in MX5016s.
NOTE:
This release supports slot level mapping.
• Enclosure Mapping: In enclosure mapping, Storage Management discovers and lists the complete enclosure.
NOTE:
Storage Management does not monitor the inventory if MX5016s is not mapped to the specific PowerEdge
Modular servers.
NOTE: Storage Management does not enumerate any slot information if dynamic assign or unassign of empty MX5016s
or drive is not present before the dynamic assign or unassign is performed.
NOTE: For fully populated PowerEdge MX7000 chassis, the Storage Management system takes few minutes to load the
storage components.
Enclosure Physical Disks
The physical disks in an enclosure are displayed under the enclosure object in the tree view. Select a disk in the tree to view the status
information.
Enclosure Fans
The fans are a component of the enclosure cooling module. The enclosure fans are displayed under the Fans object in the tree view. You
can select a fan to view the status information.
