The IPMI standard defines a hardware or software subsystem that performs key platform
monitoring and management independently from the main processor. The specification is based
on a specialized micro-controller, or Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), and defines a
message based communication protocol for system management.
The update includes new optional commands that enhance the support for using IPMI-compliant
BMCs with add-in management controllers. In Server Administrator, the Application Program
Interface (API) for System Event Log (SEL) conforms to IPMI 2.0.
• Added support for Intel branding
Intel has changed component identification on server and workstation platforms. The
components are processor numbers, chipset numbers or names, board numbers or names. For
more details see the Intel site.
• Added support to configure the front panel LCD
You can customize the front panel LCD message. However, during a failure or warning, the system
alerts are displayed. The default LCD message is the server model name. The message appears in
English and the language cannot be changed.
• Added configuration of console redirection after boot
You can configure console redirection using COM1 and COM2 ports. COM1 and COM2 are
standard serial communication ports that do not support interrupt sharing. For configuring
