Creating or Updating a Retention Policy
This editor appears when you create a new policy or edit an existing one.

This screen contains the following fields:
Retention Policy Details

Name
—A text identifier for the policy.

Description
—An optional description of the policy.
The following fields describe the retention period and rollups that occur with data.

Detail Data (days)
—This is the number of days to store raw data.

Hourly Data (days)
—This is the number of days to store hourly data.

Daily Data (days)
—This is the number of days to store daily data.
Only dashboards use the Detail Data (days) value on the retention policy. Best practice is to enter
only one or two days as a duration. Performance can suffer if this value is more than a handful of
days. The remaining fields on the retention policy are for historical reporting. You can define these
to retain data for longer periods.
Select Active Monitor members
Use the
New
button (the blank sheet of paper) to select entities whose monitor policies’ data are to
be stored according to the Retention Policy Details described above.
