34 Getting Started With Dell OpenManage IT Assistant
• "Configure IT Assistant to monitor your systems" — IT Assistant can
perform a variety of tasks for each system in your network. To be able
to perform these tasks, configure IT Assistant to:
• Discover systems, printers, switches, and storage devices.
For more information, see "Configuring Discovery Settings" on
page 99.
• Collect inventory information about memory, processor, power
supply, embedded devices, and software and firmware versions.
For more information, see "Configuring Inventory Settings" on
page 100.
• Define status polling settings to perform a power and connectivity
health check for all discovered devices. This determines whether
a device is operating normally, is in a non-normal state, or is
powered down. For more information, see "Configuring Status
Polling Settings" on page 101.
• Define a discovery range. A discovery range is a network segment
(subnet, range of IP addresses on a subnet, individual
IP addresses, or an individual host name) that IT Assistant uses
to discover devices. For more information, see "Configuring
Discovery Ranges" on page 102.
• Perform various tasks, such as:
• Creating an Alert Action: To receive notification when, for
example, a critical or warning threshold is met on one of the
managed systems.
• Creating a Performance and Power Monitoring Task: To analyze
performance of systems based on, for example, memory usage and
power consumption.
• Using Software Web Updates: To obtain the latest drivers,
firmware, and BIOS updates for the systems on your network.
• Creating a New Report: To obtain data in a presentable format.
