Dell IT Assistant Migration To OpenManage Essentials Executive summary Dell OpenManage Essentials (OME) is designed and implemented to replace the legacy Dell IT Assistant product. It provides easy migration from your existing Dell IT Assistant (ITA) instance to OpenManage Essentials in the following two scenarios.

Migration from Dell IT Assistant to OpenManage Essentials Most of the Dell IT Assistant data will be migrated except for update packages and ITA tasks. OpenManage Essentials has new functionality related to Out of Band inventory and updates for Dell PowerEdge 11th and 12th generation servers.

In previous versions of OpenManage Essentials, a server and RAC device (IDRAC5, IDRAC6 and IDRAC7) discovered and inventoried together showing up as separate devices in the Device tree. In OME1.1 there is no distinction between servers and their RAC. If both server and RAC are discovered together they show up in both the places in the Device Tree with the same name and information.

To take advantage of new features, perform discovery and inventory for all discovery ranges after the migration\upgrade. Multi-select all ranges from All Ranges then right click and select Perform Discovery and Inventory Now. 2. Under the Discovery Range Summary, select all ranges. The upgrade process handles most of this migration, but there are certain cases that are not migrated if the RAC device name was used as part of the query.
