34 Preparing the Directory Structure for Deployment in Microsoft
®
Windows
®
PE
Configuring a Source System
You need an optimally configured system both for testing purposes and as the source for the SYSCFG
and RAC configuration files to be used in the deployment process. See "Using the DTK Sample Scripts
to Capture Configuration Information in Windows PE" for instructions on using the sample DTK
scripts, SYSCAP.BAT and RACCAP.BAT, to generate SYSCFG and RAC configuration files that are
used to configure the target system.
You can use the
Installation and Server Management
and Service and Diagnostic Utilities CDs supplied
with your system to streamline the operating system installation; to setup and configure your system,
including automatic discovery and configuration of Dell-provided RAID controllers and network
adapters; to access and load the latest utilities, drivers, and diagnostics for your system; and to install
Dell OpenManage™ systems management software.
NOTE: If your system does not have a Service and Diagnostic Utilities CD, obtain the latest drivers from the
Dell Support website at support.dell.com.
For complete information about using the
Installation and Server Management
and Service and Diagnostic
Utilities CDs, see the Dell OpenManage Software Quick Installation Guide, which is available from the
Dell Support website at support.dell.com.
After you have loaded the operating system and all applicable device drivers from the
Installation and
Server Management
and
Service and Diagnostic Utilities CDs, check the Dell Support website at
support.dell.com for the latest drivers. Put all necessary drivers to be used in the deployment in the
system directory for the target system. For example, if your target system is a PowerEdge 1850, put all
necessary files in the Z:\Dell\Toolkit\Systems\pe1850 directory; or if your target system is a PowerEdge 850,
put all necessary files in the Z:\Dell\Toolkit\Systems\pe0850 directory.
How to Obtain Dell Utility Partition Files
Obtain the Dell utility partition files from Z:\Dell\Toolkit\Systems, the Dell Support website at
support.dell.com, or the Installation and Server Management CD.
RAC Configuration
Configure the RAC on your source system using the RACADM.EXE utility, if applicable. See the
Dell Remote Access Controller Racadm User's Guide for comprehensive information about using the
RACADM.EXE utility to configure the RAC on your source system.
After you have successfully prepared your directory structure for a deployment and fully configured your
source system, you are ready to write, review, or edit the deployment sample scripts. For instructions on
editing the sample scripts necessary to run a full deployment, see "Preparing the Script Files for
Deployment Using Microsoft
®
Windows
®
PE."
