Installation Notes
1.
You must have administrative privileges to install Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI) on Microsoft®
Windows NT® based operating systems like Windows® 7, Windows Vista® and Windows® XP. This means you must
be authenticated against the target system as a user who is a member of the Administrators group, typically
Administrator. See your operating system documentation for more information on administrative privileges.
2.
The target system must be a Dell system with SMBIOS version 2.3 or later. Otherwise, the installer exits without
installing OMCI.
3.
Following an upgrade, it may be necessary to reboot the system for the installation to complete.
4. Following an uninstall, it may be necessary to reboot the system for the uninstall to complete.
5. On some Dell systems, the Processor Logical Processor (HyperThreading) setting in the
DCIM_BIOSEnumeration class displays Enabled or Disabled even if the installed processor does not support
hyperthreading technology. In this case, changes to the Processor Logical Processor (HyperThreading) setting
may toggle the multi-core capability on and off, rather than hyperthreading.
6.
On some Dell systems, the Multiple CPU Cores setting in the DCIM_BIOSEnumeration class displays Enabled or
Disabled even if the installed processor does not support multi-core technology. In this case, changes to the Multiple
CPU Cores setting does nothing.
7.
Change the Auditing object access audit policy to enable Auditing for the desired namespace in Windows Vista. See
the Microsoft article: "Access to WMI Namespaces"
for instructions on how to enable Auditing. Users of Windows XP
can enable WMI logging. See the Microsoft article: "WMI log Files"
for instructions on how to enable the WMI
logging.
8.
If User Account Control (UAC) on Windows Vista or Windows 7 is turned on, for local users, only the built-in local
Administrator account can access the DellOMCI namespace. For remote users, if UAC is turned on, and the remote
system is part of a domain, use a domain account that is in the local Administrators group of the remote computer to
access the DellOMCI namespace of the target computer. For details, see the Microsoft article: "User Account Control
and WMI".
9. An operation that sets or verifies a BIOS password may pause the operating system for up to 5 seconds.
10. OMCI creates NT Event Log entries that reference "Server Administrator". This is a name for a low level component of
OMCI that is necessry for operation and is not OpenManage Server Administrator.
11.
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later is required on Windows XP operating systems for OMCI to install and operate.
