30 Using the Dell™ Management Pack
Serial Text Console Redirection
NOTE: BMC provides Serial Text Console redirection. The feature is available with
x8xx or later systems and is not a part of the Dell Management Pack. For more
information, see the Dell OpenManage Baseboard Management Controller Utilities

To redirect the BIOS console:

Launch the HyperTerminal session from your management station.

Enter a name for the connection.

Select
TCP/IP (Winsock)
in the
Connect Using
field.

Enter the IP address of the system running Serial-Over-Lan (SOL) Proxy
in the
Host Address
field.

Enter the
Port Number
as 623.
The BMC Management Utility console is displayed.

Select one of the options:
• Option 1 to connect to the remote server BMC. Enter the target
system’s BMC IP Address, BMC Username, and BMC password.
• Option 2 to configure the Serial-Over-LAN for the remote server
• Option 3 to activate Console Redirection
• Option 4 to reboot and activate Console Redirection
NOTE: You can install SOL Proxy by installing BMC from the Dell OpenManage
Systems Management Consoles CD.
