Using the Dell™ Management Pack
Getting Started
NOTE: The Management Pack also supports Microsoft System Center Essentials 2007.
All references to Operations Manager 2007 in this guide are applicable to System
Center Essentials 2007 as well.
Before you start using the Dell Management Pack for Microsoft System
Center Operations Manager 2007, it is important to understand the following
points:
• To monitor and manage a Dell device, it must be displayed as an Agent
Managed system under
Microsoft System Center Operations Manager
→
Administration
→
Device Management
→
Agent Managed.
• Dell OpenManage™ Server Administrator must be installed on all Dell
systems to identify them as Dell systems using the Management Pack.
• Grouping of Dell systems is based on the BIOS manufacturer.
• The Management Pack creates different groups for the Dell monolithic,
modular, and unknown (systems that do not have Server Administrator
installed on them or systems with an unresponsive instrumentation
service) systems.
• Server Administrator provides one-to-one systems management functionality.
• To receive alerts from the storage subsystem, ensure that the Server
Administrator Storage Management Service is installed on your Dell system.
Discovering Dell Devices
To discover Dell devices, the devices must appear in the Agent Managed view
under the Administration section of the Operations Console.
To add a Dell system to the Agent Managed list, perform the following steps:
1
Log on to the system with an account that has the Operations Manager
Administrators role, for the Operations Manager 2007 Management Group.
2
In the Operations Console, click
Administration
