USC and USC-LCE Features
This section gives a brief description of the Unified Server Configurator
(USC) and Unified Server Configurator-Lifecycle Controller Enabled
(USC-LCE) features.
USC and USC-LCE Enabled Common Features
Operating System Deployment
The OS Deployment wizard assists you in installing an operating system on
your system.
USC does not provide a local operating system drivers repository that is
required for operating system installation. Since USC does not support single
Dell Update Package
(DUP) update, use one the following methods to access
the driver packages:
Provide the path to the catalog file that is located at
ftp.dell.com, or the
local FTP with all the
DUPs
.
Provide the path to the catalog file that is located on the USB mass storage
device or the
Dell Server Updates DVD
with all the DUPs.
USC-LCE provides a local repository for drivers that is required for operating
system installation, depending on the operating system you are installing.
The OS Deployment wizard extracts these drivers and copies them to a
staging directory. For supported Microsoft
Windows
operating systems, these
extracted drivers are installed during the operating system installation. For
Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux version 4.8, manually install the extracted
drivers after the operating system installation is complete. However, for Red
Hat Enterprise Linux version 5.5, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 10
SP3, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server version 11 SP1 and later installs, the
extracted drivers are installed during the operating system installation.
Although, USC-LCE comes with embedded drivers that are factory installed,
there may be more current drivers available. You must run the Platform
Update wizard to ensure that you have the most current drivers before
installing the operating system.
