1 Before you begin Safety instructions Use the following safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and to ensure your personal safety. Unless otherwise noted, each procedure included in this document assumes that the following conditions exist: • You have read the safety information that shipped with your computer. • A component can be replaced or, if purchased separately, installed by performing the removal procedure in reverse order.
Safety precautions The safety precautions chapter details the primary steps to be taken before performing any disassembly instructions. Observe the following safety precautions before you perform any installation or break/fix procedures involving disassembly or reassembly: • Turn off the system and all attached peripherals. • Disconnect the system and all attached peripherals from AC power. • Disconnect all network cables, telephone, and telecommunications lines from the system.
• Use a wired ESD wrist strap that is properly grounded. The use of wireless anti-static straps is no longer allowed; they do not provide adequate protection. Touching the chassis before handling parts does not ensure adequate ESD protection on parts with increased sensitivity to ESD damage. • Handle all static-sensitive components in a static-safe area. If possible, use anti-static floor pads and workbench pads.
After working inside your computer After you complete any replacement procedure, ensure that you connect external devices, cards, and cables before turning on your computer. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the computer, use only the battery designed for this particular Dell computer. Do not use batteries designed for other Dell computers. 1 Connect any external devices, such as a port replicator or media base, and replace any cards, such as an ExpressCard.
2 Installing the 2230 Solid State Drive Follow the below procedures to install the 2230 Solid State Drive on your Dell Latitude 7390 laptop. 1 Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer. 2 Release the base cover: a Loosen the eight M2.5 x 6 captive screws that secure the base cover to the computer [1].Then, use a plastic scribe to release the base cover from the edge of the computer. CAUTION: Exercise caution when loosening the screws.
3 Remove the battery. NOTE: Your laptop is either shipped with a 3-cell or 4-cell battery. a To remove a 3-cell battery: 1 Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board [1]. 2 Remove the M2 x 5 screw that secures the battery to the computer [2]. 3 Lift the battery from the computer [3].
b 10 To remove a 4-cell battery: 1 Disconnect the battery cable from the connector on the system board [1]. 2 Remove the two M2 x 5 screws that secure the battery to the computer [2]. 3 Lift the battery from the computer [3].
4 Install the M.2 2230 SSD to the SSD bracket. a To install the SSD bracket: 1 M.2 SSD bracket [1]. 2 Place the M.2 SSD [2] on the SSD bracket [3]. 3 Slide the SSD into the slot provided on the SSD bracket [4]. 4 Fasten the M2.0 x 3.0 screw to secure the 2230 M.2 SSD to the SSD bracket [5].
. b 12 To install the M.2 2230 SSD assembly into the computer: 1 Align the M.2 2230 SSD assembly into its slot in the computer [1]. 2 Fasten the M2.0 x 3.0 screw to secure the M.2 SSD assembly to the computer [2].
5 Install battery. a To install a 3-cell battery: NOTE: Route the battery cable, if the cable at the base of the battery is un-routed. 1 Insert the battery into the slot on the computer [1]. 2 Replace the M2 x 5 screw to secure the battery to the computer [2]. 3 Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board [3].
b To install a 4-cell battery: NOTE: Route the battery cable, if the cable at the base of the battery is un-routed. 14 1 Insert the battery into the slot on the computer [1]. 2 Replace the two M2 x 5 screws to secure the battery to the computer [2]. 3 Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board [3].
6 Install the base cover. a b c Align the base cover tabs to the slots on the edges of the computer. Press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place. Tighten the M2.5 x 6.0 captive screws to secure the base cover to the computer. CAUTION: Exercise caution when tightening the screws. Angle the screwdriver to match the head of the screws to avoid a possible stripped screwheads.
