iDRAC – Fixes
• This update is recommended for customers with Seagate 3.5” 15K SAS HDD to improve hard-drive
reliability and longevity. Increased noise may be perceived as a result of increased fan speed.
• There was a mismatch between the IPMI application and the KCS kernel driver with respect to the KCS
buffer size. This mismatch allowed a very long raw KCS command (using “ipmitool raw” command in UEFI
for example) to be passed from the iDRAC’s KCS kernel driver to the IPMI application, and cause an
application buffer overflow. The fix was to limit the KCS data size to 200 bytes in the kernel driver.
Anything over that will be rejected at the kernel level, preventing the IPMI application buffer overflow.
iDRAC – Important Notes
• Lifecycle Controller features such as Auto Discovery and vFlash are now licensed. Install the correct
licenses for Lifecycle Controller Remote Services to work properly.
• Only if there is one or more network interface cards (NDC or LOM) present on the managed system,
Network Devices
appears under
Overview
->
Hardware
section in the iDRAC web interface.
• For the virtual console and virtual media to function properly, iDRAC8 web URL must be added to the
Local Intranet site list and the security level for the Local Intranet zone must be set to Medium-Low. In
addition, if Virtual Console and Virtual Media are configured to use Java plug-in, disable the
Enhanced
Security Mode
in Internet Explorer. If this is not possible, then in iDRAC8, configure Virtual Console to use
the ActiveX plug-in.
