Using Serial Over LAN (SOL)
This section provides several methods to initialize a Serial-Over-LAN session
including a Telnet program, an SSH client, IPMItool, and SOL Proxy. The
purpose of Serial Over LAN feature is to redirect the serial port of the
managed server through iDRAC6 into the console of your management
station.

The IPMI-based SOL over SSH/Telnet implementation eliminates the need
for an additional utility because the serial to network translation happens
within iDRAC6. The SSH or Telnet console that you use should be able to
interpret and respond to the data arriving from the managed server's serial
port. The serial port usually attaches to a shell that emulates an ANSI- or
VT100/VT220–terminal. The serial console is automatically redirected to your
SSH or Telnet console.
