6 The package is a self-extracting executable (.exe) le named DHCS-Update-YYMM.exe, where YYMM designates the year and the
month of the updates contained in the package. Double-click the le to run the executable and extract the package contents to the
shared folder. Do the following:
a The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft Setup Wizard opens. Click Conrm to step through the wizard.
b Click Install to extract the update package.
c Click Finish when the wizard completes.
Step 3: Ensure that Group Policy does not block the mounting of USB
virtual disks
If there are rmware and driver updates in the P&U package, make sure there are no Group Policy settings in place that block the mounting
of a USB virtual disk on any of the physical nodes. These settings can block the installation of some drivers.
1 As a domain administrator, log on a to computer that has the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) installed.
2 Check the specied Group Policy settings at the following paths:
\Computer Conguration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access
Setting: All Removable Storage classes: Deny all access
\Computer Conguration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Device Installation\Device Installation Restrictions
Setting: Prevent installation of removable devices
If either of these policy settings are enabled for the nodes, disable the policy setting and wait for three hours before you install rmware
and driver updates through the P&U framework.
Update the computers
Now that the patching environment is set up, you can start the patching process by running a Windows PowerShell script. This script does
the following:
1 Runs a health check to perform a basic validation of the rack you are updating.
2 Orchestrates and installs the updates in the correct order.
3 Runs a post-validation test and generates compliance reports.
To perform the patching process, do the following:
Step 1: Run a health check and x any discovered issues
As a best practice, Dell recommends that you rst run a noninvasive, read-only health check. This step ensures fundamental stamp health
before you run the actual update.
1 On the Console VM, make sure that you are logged on as the account that is a member of <
Prex
>-Setup-Admins.
2 Open an elevated Windows PowerShell session, that is, run the PowerShell session as an administrator.
IMPORTANT
: If you do not run the session as an administrator, P&U fails.
3 Run the following command, where CPSPU Folder Name is the folder name that you used for the specic update package.
\\<Prefix>CON01\PUShare\<CPSPU Folder Name>\Framework\PatchingUpgrade\Invoke-PURun.ps1–
HealthCheckOnly -PUCredential (Get-Credential)
