• If the loopback packet does not return to the CPU within 1 sec, another loopback packet sent out.
• Each loopback packet test failure appears in the
show trace linecard output.
• Additionally, a system message appears (Message 2).
• If both packets fail, a failed test result is sent to the internal FTOS task manager (TSM).
• Another test is initiated 45 seconds later.
• If the FTOS task manager (TSM) receives 3 consecutive failed messages (indicating 6 loopback tests
have failed), a syslog message appears indicating the port pipe with the failure.
• If the loopback packet does not come back, the system reads the CRC error values on S3, to determine
whether or not the SFM is bad. If the SFM is bad, the system reports CRC error as reason for SFM
problem state in the output of the show sfm command (Figure 63-1).
