System health checks
An automatic runtime loopback test monitors the overall health status of the dataplane. This loopback test
runs while the system’s switch fabric is up, detecting potential blockages in the system’s usual data transfer
path.
Line card loopback checks
Periodically, each line card sends a packet through the dataplane channels, verifying the packet is returned,
and then verifying the dataplane is functioning as expected. Both port pipes on the line cards are tested; test
results are shown for each port pipe individually.
Line card to SFM check
The line card to SFM check is run:
• At line card bootup, as long as the minimum number of 8 SFMs are installed and running
• At regular intervals to monitor card health
• Manually at any time through the CLI
diag sfm all-loopback
Line card loopback tests results are displayed when you use the show trace linecard command.
Additionally, a message appears during boot up indicating that the first loopback test was completed
(Message 1).
Refer to Figure 63-2 for a graphic representation of the packet walk. A packet is sent every 45 seconds.The
